Tonight Gary Hickling gave a great Webinar on Lotte Lehmann. She was my first Sieglinde, not sadly live but on the series of 1935 shellac 78s remarkably well recorded. Lehmann had the skill to portray the terrified, distressed and yet heroic young woman who is Sieglinde in a way that after many, many fine Sieglindes I never heard in the same way until Lee Bissett did it at Longborough in 2013.
